The eco scheme legally requires the main energy suppliers to install energy efficient technologies such as cavity wall insulation and loft insulation to domestic households in the uk. If the energy suppliers fall short of their obligations they receive hefty fines. Some energy providers are lowering the criteria for eligibility as they struggle to meet the targets. This means that most householders are now able to obtain free insulation measures.

Poynton insulation grants – free cavity wall and loft insulation
there is still time to benefit from free insulation measures in Poynton and surrounding counties as part of the government’s energy company obligation (eco) scheme. Households in the uk could save up to £565* a year on energy bills simply by improving the efficiency of the insulation installed in the property you live. The free insulation measures offered are:
loft insulation. Heat from your house will rise resulting in about quarter of the heat generated being lost through the roof of an uninsulated home. Insulating the roof space of your home is the simplest, most cost-effective way of saving energy and reducing your heating bills.
Neither british gas, sse nor scottish power currently offers free insulation or boilers. Some companies’ schemes are currently on hold while the legislation behind them changes. They are backed by the energy companies obligation (eco).
Roof insulation grants are available for some types of insulation. Roof insulation is either installed on the sloping part of a roof, typically from the inside, or in the case of flat roof insulation, it is normally installed from outside. Roof insulation can also refer to loft insulation which is installed on the floor of the loft and room in roof insulation, which is a combination of both pitched roof and loft insulation. Up to 25% of the heat generated in your home could be escaping if you have little or no roof insulation. Energylink are currently unable to assist with a grant for pitched roof and flat roof insulation but we can help with loft insulation and room in roof insulation.
Eligible households can apply to any participating energy firm – not just the home’s supplier – to get a free home assessment. It’s worth noting, however, that different energy providers have different eligibility criteria, and some offer home insulation while others are focused on boilers or other home energy efficiency measures. See below for further details. During a home assessment, your property will be examined to see what energy efficiency measures are already in place. New properties are generally well insulated, for example, but older homes may suffer from poor loft insulation and have cavity walls without any insulation installed.

Insulation grants could help fund much-needed home improvements. If you qualify, we’d be happy to help you apply for a range of home energy efficiency grants. We also offer finance arrangements to help spread the cost of installing your insulation. Depending on your circumstances, the new government-backed eco scheme could fully-fund your loft insulation and cavity wall insulation. In some cases, an eco grant can be used towards the cost of installing solid wall insulation and even fund a replacement boiler.
Grants for boilers and loft and cavity wall insulation for vulnerable customers are now offered through the ‘affordable warmth’ section of the energy company obligation (eco). For more information and eligibility criteria, go directly to your energy supplier or alternatively go to:
or contact the energy saving advice service website
the energy company obligation (eco) is an obligation on energy suppliers aimed at helping households cut their energy bills and reduce carbon emissions by installing energy saving measures. Following the spring 2018 consultation, the government set out in its response that eco3 will fully focus on affordable warmth – low income, vulnerable and fuel poor households.
Good news – from the 1st october 2018, eco3 was launched and removed the caps on household income making it much easier to qualify for free home insulation 2020. As long as you are in receipt of certain benefits then the application is very simple. Your property must be of a size and structure that is able to create sufficient energy savings from the insulation installed using its deemed score. While we are offering one or more types of grant insulation, in some circumstances, we may also offer you a totally free boiler replacement as well using eco funding. Once you have made your insulation application then our friendly uk team will discuss this with you.
Each application depends on your circumstances and the energy improvements that can be made to your home. Loft insulation, cavity wall insulation, party wall insulation, or suspended underfloor insulation is included in the grant either for free or heavily subsidised. The areas you can apply for an insulation grant in the uk are england, scotland and wales. However, depending on the uptake in different areas and supply and installation availability, limitations may apply over a period of time. The scheme is available until march 2022. Don’t miss out, apply now.
In some cases, ‘top up’ improvements will be allowed such as additional loft insulation up to the recommended level or solid wall insulation for other walls where a wall has been previously insulated, but replacements are not included. For low-carbon heating systems to be installed, the property will need to have adequate insulation(e. G. Wall and loft). If this insulation is not already in situ, it can installed as part of a package. Secondary green homes grants are available (as long as primary work is also being completed)for:.
If you home needs cavity wall and floor insulation costing £6,000, you will only pay £2,000, with the government vouchers contributing the remaining two-thirds. Agree to install an £10,000 air-source heat pump and the government will contribute the first £5,000 – or the whole amount if you are on benefits including working tax credit, child tax credit, universal credit and disability living allowance. To apply you must have received at least one quote from a green homes grant-registered installer. If the price seems unreasonably high, the scheme administrator may request that you provide another quote.

How much money can you save from insulating your home?
according to the energy saving trust, having your cavity walls and loft insulated properly could save you up to £565 a year, depending on your energy prices as well as your energy consumption. Where and how does heat actually leave my home?
most heat loss in your home occurs through walls or the roof, but it’s also lost through windows, gaps around the door and through the floor. How does home insulation work?
home insulation material has been designed to slow heat flow. In simpler terms, the material has been designed so that heat cannot easily pass through it and escape.
It may seem wrong to talk about insulation and ventilation at the same time. However, adequate ventilation in your loft is essential to prevent condensation. If condensation does develop and cannot escape, in the long-term you could have more serious problems with damp. To prevent this we can install soffit or roof vents in your loft if there is no other suitable ventilation.
A surveyor will check for any problems, but loft insulation cannot be installed if:
there is no access or access is restricted. There must be a hatch or other access point that one person can easily fit through. If there is no hatch or it is too small, most of our installers can arrange for one to be fitted. There are a large quantity of stored items and you are not prepared to clear them. Installers can work around a few items but they will not move large quantities for you.
The main benefits of having loft insulation installed are:
prevents the heat generated in your home escaping through your roof
saves money on your heating bills. Insulating your loft can cut your heating bills by up to £225 per year (more if you are off the gas grid)
loft insulation reduces carbon emissions
loft insulation makes your home warmer during winter, and cools it in summer, getting the best of both worlds
improves your home’s energy performance rating
less condensation problems
loft insulation is insulating material which is placed in between and over the joists in your attic or roof. It can also be used to insulate your loft hatch and any water tanks or pipes in your attic space.
A grant of up to 25% can be claimed towards the cost of external wall insulation. Prices typically range from £7,000 to £15,000. Energylink can arrange a free survey and quote from an accredited local installer. Free external wall insulation is also available if you live in kw, iv or ph and do not have mains gas. External wall insulation is normally installed in properties that have solid brick or concrete walls. It can also be fitted to homes with cavity walls that are not suitable for cavity wall insulation.
If your household isn’t eligible for free improvements, there are still plenty of things you can do to save money on your energy bills. For instance, switching supplier remains one of the best ways to lower your energy costs. Our guide to switching energy suppliers has more helpful information. Making improvements yourself
loft insulation is something that can be installed comparatively cheaply, although the approximate fee of £395 may be a lot for customers to pay upfront. Similarly, cavity wall insulation can cost around £725 to install.
the green homes grant scheme will provide vouchers to install one or more energy saving measures, including: solid wall, under-floor, cavity wall or roof insulation. Air source or ground source heat pump (where the home has, or is having installed wall and loft insulation). For further information ,eligibility and how to apply visit the simple energy advice website www. Simpleenergyadvice. Org. Uk.
If your house was built between the 1920’s and the 1990’s it is likely that your exterior walls have a double skin of bricks with have a cavity, or gap, between them. Houses built before this period were built with solid stone. Any residential properties built lkater than ths are likely to have insulation already installed. If your home was constructed using solid walls, or has a timber frame, it is not suitable for cavity wall insulation.
If you receive a qualifying benefit the government could provide you with the money you need to re-insulate your home, improve energy efficiency and save money. What kind of insulation will a grant cover?
there are grants available for several different types of insulation, and you could be eligible for more than one!
cavity. You may be offered enough to fund the entire installation but some people receive only some of the money and need to contribute to the costs. Who is eligible for an insulation grant?.

It’s all about reducing carbon emissions. The gas and electricity companies have a legal obligation to reduce carbon emissions. This is know as the energy company’s obligation, eco for short. When an insulation job is carried out, the amount of carbon emissions saved is calculated. The actual amount saved will depend on the type of property – terraced, semi-detached, detached, etc. It also takes into account the number of bedrooms and the fuel you use to heat your home. These carbon emissions savings are sold to one of the gas and electricity companies. And that’s how it is funded.
