You do not currently need to be receiving benefits to qualify. External wall free insulation is also available in the kw, iv and ph areas of scotland, as long as the property is not on the gas network.
Neither british gas, sse nor scottish power currently offers free insulation or boilers. Some companies’ schemes are currently on hold while the legislation behind them changes. They are backed by the energy companies obligation (eco).
If someone in the household is claiming a benefit, you could be entitled to free internal wall insulation for your home. The property must also have walls that are of solid construction type and you should also own the property or be renting it from a private landlord. Up to 25% of the heat generated in your home could be escaping if you have little or no roof insulation. Energylink are currently unable to assist with a grant for pitched roof and flat roof insulation but we can help with loft insulation and room in roof insulation. If your loft is not properly insulated, you could be losing up to 25% of the heat created in your home and be missing out on savings of up to £155 per year on your heating bills. All private households qualify for a loft insulation grant of 50% to 100% depending on the existing efficiency of the property. If a contribution towards the cost is required, it will be in the region of £49 to £199. Loft insulation grant funding comes from the six main energy suppliers and is backed by the uk government. It is the occupier of the property who qualifies for the grant and they do not have to be paid back.
There are several schemes available in different areas of the country, you or anyone living in the property do not necessarily need to be over a certain age or receiving benefits to qualify. Following the spring 2018 consultation, the government set out in its response that eco3 will fully focus on affordable warmth – low income, vulnerable and fuel poor households.
Government grants for free loft insulation and cavity wall insulation in scotland are accessible via the energy company obligation (eco) scheme. This is an environmental program which aims to lower carbon emissions by making scottish homes more energy-efficient. The uk and scottish governments have signed up to an international agreement which requires all included countries to lower their carbon footprint. Each government has annual targets to meet. These targets are achieved by reducing the amount of energy wasted in the home. Part of the plan is to make all homes in scotland more energy-efficient. Insulating your walls and loft correctly means you spend less money on heating bills.
If you home needs cavity wall and floor insulation costing £6,000, you will only pay £2,000, with the government vouchers contributing the remaining two-thirds. Agree to install an £10,000 air-source heat pump and the government will contribute the first £5,000 – or the whole amount if you are on benefits including working tax credit, child tax credit, universal credit and disability living allowance. To apply you must have received at least one quote from a green homes grant-registered installer. If the price seems unreasonably high, the scheme administrator may request that you provide another quote.
