typical payback period of 2 years in virgin lofts with no prior insulation.

Households can apply for loft insulation grants when they have an uninsulated loft space or insulted with less than 100mm (4 inches)
if you have a typical loft with a pitched roof, it is a high energy efficiency measure to insulate it. Insulating is a natural process for our specialists, we will make sure that no risk of frozen pipes or any condensation by making sure any pipework or water tanks are insulated. As the roof space gets colder after being insulated, uninsulated pipework could freeze.

{|while researching free roof insulation, i came across a government-commissioned website called simple energy advice. The scheme is one of the most popular free insulation schemes in the uk and allows households across the uk to have free cavity wall insulation installed to create warmer, more energy-efficient homes.

Including ‘free’ £1,000 cavity wall & roof insulation

Garswood insulation grants – free cavity wall and loft insulation in Garswood

there is still time to benefit from free insulation measures in Garswood and surrounding counties as part of the government’s energy company obligation (eco) scheme. Households in the uk could save up to £565* a year on energy bills simply by improving the efficiency of the insulation installed in the property you live. The free insulation measures offered are:
loft insulation.
cavity
Heat from your house will rise resulting in about quarter of the heat generated being lost through the roof of an uninsulated home. Insulating the roof space of your home is the simplest, most cost-effective way of saving energy and reducing your heating bills.

Get up to £10,000 for energy efficiency improvements to your home

Loft insulation is one of the most simple, affordable and effective things you can do to improve your home’s energy efficiency and lower your energy bills. For a typical home, loft insulation starts from £136 with the green homes grant applied.

We recommend that you seek advice on how best to improve the energy efficiency and heating in your home. You can use the simple energy advice ( sea ) website to check what energy efficiency or low carbon heating improvements may be best suited to your home. You can also seek advice from your property’s energy performance certificate ( epc ) or from a retrofit assessor. You cannot claim for the cost of any advice as part of your grant.

If your loft is not properly insulated, you could be losing up to 25% of the heat created in your home and be missing out on savings of up to £155 per year on your heating bills. All private households qualify for a loft insulation grant of 50% to 100% depending on the existing efficiency of the property. If a contribution towards the cost is required, it will be in the region of £49 to £199. Loft insulation grant funding comes from the six main energy suppliers and is backed by the uk government. It is the occupier of the property who qualifies for the grant and they do not have to be paid back.

There are several schemes available in different areas of the country, you or anyone living in the property do not necessarily need to be over a certain age or receiving benefits to qualify. If someone does get any qualifying benefit it will usually mean automatic qualification, we can let you know and confirm this when you contact us. Qualification can also be based on the existing energy efficiency of your home, if your home is inefficient you could get a higher grant and be offered other improvements to reduce your fuel bills, keep warm and help the environment by reducing carbon emissions that are produced when we heat our homes.

What’s on offer and how do I get a boiler grant?

As with the boiler grants you may not be offered a grant that covers the entire cost of the insulation but a substantial portion of it. If this is the case you will be told how much you would need to contribute before deciding to go ahead; you’re under no pressure to agree to anything you cannot afford.

The scottish and uk governments, local authorities and energy suppliers offer a range of financial measures, usually in the form of grants, loans or incentives. Financial help may be:
available for certain types of energy efficient improvements – sometimes the financial help is targeted at certain improvements, such as boilers or loft insulation
means tested – you may need to be receiving certain benefits to qualify for the financial help
dependant on where you live in scotland – some types of financial support might only be available in some areas of scotland.

Insulation grants could help fund much-needed home improvements. If you qualify, we’d be happy to help you apply for a range of home energy efficiency grants. We also offer finance arrangements to help spread the cost of installing your insulation. Depending on your circumstances, the new government-backed eco scheme could fully-fund your loft insulation and cavity wall insulation. In some cases, an eco grant can be used towards the cost of installing solid wall insulation and even fund a replacement boiler.

Good news – from the 1st october 2018, eco3 was launched and removed the caps on household income making it much easier to qualify for free home insulation 2020. As long as you are in receipt of certain benefits then the application is very simple. Your property must be of a size and structure that is able to create sufficient energy savings from the insulation installed using its deemed score. While we are offering one or more types of grant insulation, in some circumstances, we may also offer you a totally free boiler replacement as well using eco funding. Once you have made your insulation application then our friendly uk team will discuss this with you.

What’s included with the grant?

Your home may qualify for free loft insulation in scotland if you claim specific benefits or tax credits. Installing loft and cavity wall insulation is the most effective way of reducing energy bills. Government grants for free loft insulation and cavity wall insulation in scotland are accessible via the energy company obligation (eco) scheme. This is an environmental program which aims to lower carbon emissions by making scottish homes more energy-efficient. How do insulation grants work?
the uk and scottish governments have signed up to an international agreement which requires all included countries to lower their carbon footprint. Each government has annual targets to meet. These targets are achieved by reducing the amount of energy wasted in the home. Part of the plan is to make all homes in scotland more energy-efficient.

The council is currently working with a local contractor and scottish power to offer grants for cavity and loft insulation if you live in a privately owned property. Subject to eligibility aid maybe also available for room in the roof or internal wall insulation if the property is suitable and the householder is in receipt of an energy company obligation eligibility benefit. To receive more information please email the healthy homes team or telephone the council on (01482) 396301 and select option 2.

It may seem wrong to talk about insulation and ventilation at the same time. However, adequate ventilation in your loft is essential to prevent condensation. If condensation does develop and cannot escape, in the long-term you could have more serious problems with damp. To prevent this we can install soffit or roof vents in your loft if there is no other suitable ventilation.

It is preferable to install flat roof insulation from the outside. This would normally take place if the roof needs to be replaced but it can be retro-fitted to flat roofs that are in good condition. Rigid insulation boards are normally fixed to the roof and a weatherproof layer is then added. Flat roof insulation can also be installed from inside but condensation problems can occur if it is not installed correctly. We are unable to help with grants for this type of insulation.

You need boards to be lifted for you. If your loft is boarded out we cannot lay insulation over the top. Alternatively, you can lift the boards before the insulation is laid and then replace them afterwards but they will have to be raised due to the extra thickness. We cannot lift or replace any boards for you. There is any damp present. Loft insulation can help to prevent condensation, but all other damp problems must be cured before it can be installed.

The main benefits of having loft insulation installed are:
prevents the heat generated in your home escaping through your roof
saves money on your heating bills. Insulating your loft can cut your heating bills by up to £225 per year (more if you are off the gas grid)
loft insulation reduces carbon emissions
loft insulation makes your home warmer during winter, and cools it in summer, getting the best of both worlds
improves your home’s energy performance rating
less condensation problems
loft insulation is insulating material which is placed in between and over the joists in your attic or roof. It can also be used to insulate your loft hatch and any water tanks or pipes in your attic space.

Loft insulation is one of the simplest and most cost-effective methods of conserving heat in your property. It is an effective insulator for at least 40 years and when properly installed, could save you up to £225 per year in energy bills. Generally, loft spaces that are easily accessible and that do not have damp or condensation problems are best suited for loft insulation. If your loft has these issues, they will need to be corrected before insulation can be installed.

the green homes grant scheme will provide vouchers to install one or more energy saving measures, including: solid wall, under-floor, cavity wall or roof insulation. Air source or ground source heat pump (where the home has, or is having installed wall and loft insulation).
