Roof insulation grants are available for some types of insulation. Roof insulation is either installed on the sloping part of a roof, typically from the inside, or in the case of flat roof insulation, it is normally installed from outside. Roof insulation can also refer to loft insulation which is installed on the floor of the loft and room in roof insulation, which is a combination of both pitched roof and loft insulation. Up to 25% of the heat generated in your home could be escaping if you have little or no roof insulation. Energylink are currently unable to assist with a grant for pitched roof and flat roof insulation but we can help with loft insulation and room in roof insulation.
If someone in the household is claiming a benefit, you could be entitled to free internal wall insulation for your home. The property must also have walls that are of solid construction type and you should also own the property or be renting it from a private landlord. The uk government has introduced a new grant that allows you to save two-thirds of the cost of some energy-efficient home improvements up to the value of £5,000, or the full cost up to £10,000 if you’re in receipt of certain benefits. If your loft is not properly insulated, you could be losing up to 25% of the heat created in your home and be missing out on savings of up to £155 per year on your heating bills. All private households qualify for a loft insulation grant of 50% to 100% depending on the existing efficiency of the property. If a contribution towards the cost is required, it will be in the region of £49 to £199. Loft insulation grant funding comes from the six main energy suppliers and is backed by the uk government. It is the occupier of the property who qualifies for the grant and they do not have to be paid back.
There are several schemes available in different areas of the country, you or anyone living in the property do not necessarily need to be over a certain age or receiving benefits to qualify. If someone does get any qualifying benefit it will usually mean automatic qualification, we can let you know and confirm this when you contact us. Qualification can also be based on the existing energy efficiency of your home, if your home is inefficient you could get a higher grant and be offered other improvements to reduce your fuel bills, keep warm and help the environment by reducing carbon emissions that are produced when we heat our homes.
Fuel poverty can cause vulnerable and low income households to live in cold, unhealthy homes that are expensive to keep warm and increase levels of debt. Braintree district council welcomes the new local authority flexible eligibility powers for energy company obligation (eco) affordable warmth grant funding as a means to help address this issue. What’s on offer and how do I get a boiler grant?
As with the boiler grants you may not be offered a grant that covers the entire cost of the insulation but a substantial portion of it. If this is the case you will be told how much you would need to contribute before deciding to go ahead; you’re under no pressure to agree to anything you cannot afford.
Good news – from the 1st october 2018, eco3 was launched and removed the caps on household income making it much easier to qualify for free home insulation 2020. As long as you are in receipt of certain benefits then the application is very simple. Your property must be of a size and structure that is able to create sufficient energy savings from the insulation installed using its deemed score. While we are offering one or more types of grant insulation, in some circumstances, we may also offer you a totally free boiler replacement as well using eco funding. How can I check if cavity wall insulation is right for my home?
To work out which type of insulation is right for your home, read our guides to loft insulation and cavity wall insulation. Before taking up any deal, you’ll need to read the small print for each insulation offer to make sure you and your home are eligible. Companies typically need to be able to insulate at least two thirds of your loft space, and exclude properties with more than 60mm of loft insulation already in place. You may not be eligible if you live in a rented property, flat or maisonette, or a housing association or council property. Most deals apply only to people living in mainland britain. You may need to pay towards the cost of your ‘free’ insulation if you live in a particularly large or unusual house.
If you home needs cavity wall and floor insulation costing £6,000, you will only pay £2,000, with the government vouchers contributing the remaining two-thirds. Agree to install an £10,000 air-source heat pump and the government will contribute the first £5,000 – or the whole amount if you are on benefits including working tax credit, child tax credit, universal credit and disability living allowance. To apply you must have received at least one quote from a green homes grant-registered installer. If the price seems unreasonably high, the scheme administrator may request that you provide another quote.

A grant of up to 25% can be claimed towards the cost of external wall insulation. Prices typically range from £7,000 to £15,000. Energylink can arrange a free survey and quote from an accredited local installer. Free external wall insulation is also available if you live in kw, iv or ph and do not have mains gas. External wall insulation is normally installed in properties that have solid brick or concrete walls. It can also be fitted to homes with cavity walls that are not suitable for cavity wall insulation.
