If you are on benefits or a low income family you will also qualify for a free insulation grant under the government’s energy company obligation (eco) and you not only will save money of your heating bill you will also have your insulation fitted for free!.
If someone in the household is claiming a benefit, you could be entitled to free internal wall insulation for your home. The property must also have walls that are of solid construction type and you should also own the property or be renting it from a private landlord. Up to 25% of the heat generated in your home could be escaping if you have little or no roof insulation. Energylink are currently unable to assist with a grant for pitched roof and flat roof insulation but we can help with loft insulation and room in roof insulation. Good news – from the 1st october 2018, eco3 was launched and removed the caps on household income making it much easier to qualify for free home insulation 2020. As long as you are in receipt of certain benefits then the application is very simple. Your property must be of a size and structure that is able to create sufficient energy savings from the insulation installed using its deemed score. While we are offering one or more types of grant insulation, in some circumstances, we may also offer you a totally free boiler replacement as well using eco funding. How can I check if cavity wall insulation is right for my home?
To work out which type of insulation is right for your home, read our guides to loft insulation and cavity wall insulation. Before taking up any deal, you’ll need to read the small print for each insulation offer to make sure you and your home are eligible. Companies typically need to be able to insulate at least two thirds of your loft space, and exclude properties with more than 60mm of loft insulation already in place. You may not be eligible if you live in a rented property, flat or maisonette, or a housing association or council property. Most deals apply only to people living in mainland britain. You may need to pay towards the cost of your ‘free’ insulation if you live in a particularly large or unusual house.
The council is currently working with a local contractor and scottish power to offer grants for cavity and loft insulation if you live in a privately owned property. Subject to eligibility aid maybe also available for room in the roof or internal wall insulation if the property is suitable and the householder is in receipt of an energy company obligation eligibility benefit. How much money can you save from insulating your home?
according to the energy saving trust, having your cavity walls and loft insulated properly could save you up to £565 a year, depending on your energy prices as well as your energy consumption. Where and how does heat actually leave my home?
most heat loss in your home occurs through walls or the roof, but it’s also lost through windows, gaps around the door and through the floor. How does home insulation work?
home insulation material has been designed to slow heat flow. In simpler terms, the material has been designed so that heat cannot easily pass through it and escape.
It may seem wrong to talk about insulation and ventilation at the same time. However, adequate ventilation in your loft is essential to prevent condensation. If condensation does develop and cannot escape, in the long-term you could have more serious problems with damp. To prevent this we can install soffit or roof vents in your loft if there is no other suitable ventilation.
A surveyor will check for any problems, but loft insulation cannot be installed if:
there is no access or access is restricted. There must be a hatch or other access point that one person can easily fit through. If there is no hatch or it is too small, most of our installers can arrange for one to be fitted. There are a large quantity of stored items and you are not prepared to clear them. Installers can work around a few items but they will not move large quantities for you.
It is preferable to install flat roof insulation from the outside. This would normally take place if the roof needs to be replaced but it can be retro-fitted to flat roofs that are in good condition. Rigid insulation boards are normally fixed to the roof and a weatherproof layer is then added. Flat roof insulation can also be installed from inside but condensation problems can occur if it is not installed correctly. We are unable to help with grants for this type of insulation.
You need boards to be lifted for you. If your loft is boarded out we cannot lay insulation over the top. Alternatively, you can lift the boards before the insulation is laid and then replace them afterwards but they will have to be raised due to the extra thickness. We cannot lift or replace any boards for you. There is any damp present. Loft insulation can help to prevent condensation, but all other damp problems must be cured before it can be installed.
If your property is suitable you may be able to have a number of energy efficiency improvements installed in your home for free (subject to survey) including loft insulation and cavity wall insulation. Boiler replacements are also included on this scheme (subject to eligibility). Our scheme is called cosy homes in lancashire and is backed by all the lancashire local authorities and we have funding available for owner-occupiers and private tenants to install a number of measures. Blackpool council is working with local authorities in lancashire to help households access funding for energy-related improvements to their homes. If your property is suitable you may be able to have a number of energy efficiency improvements installed in your home for free including loft insulation and cavity wall insulation.
If your house was built between the 1920’s and the 1990’s it is likely that your exterior walls have a double skin of bricks with have a cavity, or gap, between them. Houses built before this period were built with solid stone. Any residential properties built lkater than ths are likely to have insulation already installed. If your home was constructed using solid walls, or has a timber frame, it is not suitable for cavity wall insulation.
