Free insulation grants are available to install cavity wall insulation, internal wall insulation, loft insulation and room in roof insulation. All private uk householders, in receipt of a qualifying income or disability-related benefit can qualify. We can also help with grants of up to 25% for external wall insulation. You do not currently need to be receiving benefits to qualify. External wall free insulation is also available in the kw, iv and ph areas of scotland, as long as the property is not on the gas network.
What free insulation can I get?
Some suppliers offer free insulation if you’re eligible under the eco scheme. For example, you may be eligible if you’re on government benefits. But suppliers will also take into account how much your home will benefit from insulation.
The green homes grant scheme will also provide free insulation to households in the lowest-income groups (you will need to be in receipt of certain government benefits). If you don’t qualify for this, the scheme will also provide vouchers for at least two-thirds of the cost of some types of insulation for homeowners in england. If you are on benefits or a low income family you will also qualify for a free insulation grant under the government’s energy company obligation (eco) and you not only will save money of your heating bill you will also have your insulation fitted for free!.
To work out which type of insulation is right for your home, read our guides to loft insulation and cavity wall insulation. Before taking up any deal, you’ll need to read the small print for each insulation offer to make sure you and your home are eligible. Companies typically need to be able to insulate at least two thirds of your loft space, and exclude properties with more than 60mm of loft insulation already in place. You may not be eligible if you live in a rented property, flat or maisonette, or a housing association or council property. Most deals apply only to people living in mainland britain. You may need to pay towards the cost of your ‘free’ insulation if you live in a particularly large or unusual house.

What’s on offer and how do I get a boiler grant?
As with the boiler grants you may not be offered a grant that covers the entire cost of the insulation but a substantial portion of it. If this is the case you will be told how much you would need to contribute before deciding to go ahead; you’re under no pressure to agree to anything you cannot afford.
Each application depends on your circumstances and the energy improvements that can be made to your home. Loft insulation, cavity wall insulation, party wall insulation, or suspended underfloor insulation is included in the grant either for free or heavily subsidised. The areas you can apply for an insulation grant in the uk are england, scotland and wales. However, depending on the uptake in different areas and supply and installation availability, limitations may apply over a period of time. The scheme is available until march 2022. Government grants for free loft insulation and cavity wall insulation in scotland are accessible via the energy company obligation (eco) scheme. If your property is suitable you may be able to have a number of energy efficiency improvements installed in your home for free (subject to survey) including loft insulation and cavity wall insulation. If your house was built between the 1920’s and the 1990’s it is likely that your exterior walls have a double skin of bricks with have a cavity, or gap, between them. Houses built before this period were built with solid stone. Any residential properties built lkater than ths are likely to have insulation already installed. If your home was constructed using solid walls, or has a timber frame, it is not suitable for cavity wall insulation.

It’s all about reducing carbon emissions. The gas and electricity companies have a legal obligation to reduce carbon emissions. This is know as the energy company’s obligation, eco for short. When an insulation job is carried out, the amount of carbon emissions saved is calculated. The actual amount saved will depend on the type of property – terraced, semi-detached, detached, etc. It also takes into account the number of bedrooms and the fuel you use to heat your home. These carbon emissions savings are sold to one of the gas and electricity companies. And that’s how it is funded.
