Who is eligible? edf customers who either own their home or rent it privately and have an epc rating of a-e. You, or someone in your household, must also receive one of the qualifying benefits (see edf’s website for the full list ). Subsidised boilers are only available for home owners. Your home will be assessed for suitability for insulation and whether you qualify for a boiler. You will need to contribute £240 towards a new boiler.
Households can apply for loft insulation grants when they have an uninsulated loft space or insulted with less than 100mm (4 inches)
if you have a typical loft with a pitched roof, it is a high energy efficiency measure to insulate it. Insulating is a natural process for our specialists, we will make sure that no risk of frozen pipes or any condensation by making sure any pipework or water tanks are insulated. As the roof space gets colder after being insulated, uninsulated pipework could freeze.
Free insulation grants are available to install cavity wall insulation, internal wall insulation, loft insulation and room in roof insulation. All private uk householders, in receipt of a qualifying income or disability-related benefit can qualify. We can also help with grants of up to 25% for external wall insulation. You do not currently need to be receiving benefits to qualify. External wall free insulation is also available in the kw, iv and ph areas of scotland, as long as the property is not on the gas network.
What free insulation can I get?
Some suppliers offer free insulation if you’re eligible under the eco scheme. For example, you may be eligible if you’re on government benefits. But suppliers will also take into account how much your home will benefit from insulation.
The green homes grant scheme will also provide free insulation to households in the lowest-income groups (you will need to be in receipt of certain government benefits). If you don’t qualify for this, the scheme will also provide vouchers for at least two-thirds of the cost of some types of insulation for homeowners in england. Roof insulation grants are available for some types of insulation. Roof insulation is either installed on the sloping part of a roof, typically from the inside, or in the case of flat roof insulation, it is normally installed from outside. Roof insulation can also refer to loft insulation which is installed on the floor of the loft and room in roof insulation, which is a combination of both pitched roof and loft insulation. Up to 25% of the heat generated in your home could be escaping if you have little or no roof insulation. Energylink are currently unable to assist with a grant for pitched roof and flat roof insulation but we can help with loft insulation and room in roof insulation.
If someone in the household is claiming a benefit, you could be entitled to free internal wall insulation for your home. The property must also have walls that are of solid construction type and you should also own the property or be renting it from a private landlord. the energy company obligation (eco) is an obligation on energy suppliers aimed at helping households cut their energy bills and reduce carbon emissions by installing energy saving measures. Following the spring 2018 consultation, the government set out in its response that eco3 will fully focus on affordable warmth – low income, vulnerable and fuel poor households.
Government grants for free loft insulation and cavity wall insulation in scotland are accessible via the energy company obligation (eco) scheme. This is an environmental program which aims to lower carbon emissions by making scottish homes more energy-efficient. The uk and scottish governments have signed up to an international agreement which requires all included countries to lower their carbon footprint. Each government has annual targets to meet. These targets are achieved by reducing the amount of energy wasted in the home. Part of the plan is to make all homes in scotland more energy-efficient. Insulating your walls and loft correctly means you spend less money on heating bills.
In some cases, ‘top up’ improvements will be allowed such as additional loft insulation up to the recommended level or solid wall insulation for other walls where a wall has been previously insulated, but replacements are not included. For low-carbon heating systems to be installed, the property will need to have adequate insulation(e. G. Wall and loft). What can I do if I have problems with my insulation?
A 2016 report by the building research establishment looking at cavity wall insulation in wales – where many problems have been reported – concluded there is evidence it’s been poorly installed, or installed in unsuitable properties in some cases. Problems seem to be concentrated on the west side of the country, including in south-west england, west wales, north-west england and north-west scotland. These areas are known to be particularly unsuitable for cavity wall insulation because of severe exposure to ‘wind-driven rain’. First check whether the area you’re in is deemed high risk. The map below from the building research establishment shows the areas that are most at risk of ‘wind-driven rain’ in blue and dark blue.
It is preferable to install flat roof insulation from the outside. This would normally take place if the roof needs to be replaced but it can be retro-fitted to flat roofs that are in good condition. Rigid insulation boards are normally fixed to the roof and a weatherproof layer is then added. Flat roof insulation can also be installed from inside but condensation problems can occur if it is not installed correctly. We are unable to help with grants for this type of insulation.
You need boards to be lifted for you. If your loft is boarded out we cannot lay insulation over the top. Alternatively, you can lift the boards before the insulation is laid and then replace them afterwards but they will have to be raised due to the extra thickness. We cannot lift or replace any boards for you. There is any damp present. Loft insulation can help to prevent condensation, but all other damp problems must be cured before it can be installed.
Loft insulation is one of the simplest and most cost-effective methods of conserving heat in your property. It is an effective insulator for at least 40 years and when properly installed, could save you up to £225 per year in energy bills. Generally, loft spaces that are easily accessible and that do not have damp or condensation problems are best suited for loft insulation. If your loft has these issues, they will need to be corrected before insulation can be installed.
Suppliers can charge for improvements in some unusual circumstances. If the installation requires a lot of extra work – like putting up scaffolding for external insulation or removing old insulation – they may charge or part charge for the extra cost. The good news is that having the assessment is free and no obligation. If there are costs, you’ll still save in comparison to doing it yourself, and continue to save on bills once it’s done – but it’s your choice whether to accept them or go without.
